Complex PTSD still a fairly new field of study .... yes, it's different then PTSD. #Awareness #CPTSD

10082022 having a hard time, trying to stay centered. Researching , keeping my brain 🧠 distracted. Here's some great data on the differences between Complex PTSD and PTSD.

One things for certain. My emotional flashbacks have been off the charts lately . I was doing so good since leaving the home of the source of my intense CPTSD.. (long story which I'll post about soon. It involves a huge lava eruption taking 700 Homes in my childhood neighborhood born and raised... forcing myself and my daughter and her dad to evacuate and stay in a couple rooms at my dad's house , putting us all in a vicious circle , the same one as I was raised in, but extremy intensified.)

Here’s an explanation of what happens during an Emotional Flashback:

Your palms sweat. Your heart races. You feel confused and frightened…sometimes out of the blue. You don’t remember where you are — are you here, now, or back in another, scarier time?

For many people living with PTSD, it’s a common experience. Faced with a reminder of a traumatic event, someone with PTSD can be jerked back into the mental, emotional and even physical experience of trauma.

But what happens when that trauma is ongoing, or a prolonged series of events?

This is Complex PTSD or C-PTSD.

AND I have CPTSD.

Many, even in the mental health field are not as schooled on C-PTSD as they are PTSD. It is a relatively new field of study. Some are not aware of the differences between PTSD and Complex PTSD

Many of the issues and symptoms endured by complex trauma (C-PTSD) survivors are outside of the list of symptoms within the (uncomplicated) PTSD diagnostic criterion. Complex PTSD does acknowledge and validate many added symptoms.

So, we with C-PTSD might have an even bigger challenge because we have an added bunch of symptoms on top of a PTSD evaluation.

Complex Post-Traumatic Stress disorder (C-PTSD) results from enduring complex trauma.The impact of complex trauma is very different than a one time or short-lived trauma — which is PTSD. PTSD is generally related to a single event, while complex PTSD is related to a series of events, or one prolonged event. Symptoms of PTSD can arise after a traumatic episode, such as a car collision, an earthquake, or sexual assault. For many people with PTSD, this traumatic event was a singular occurrence: A natural disaster, or a single violent assault. — WEB MD

I really hope that the awareness can continue to be raised for us who battle complex PTSD. PTSD alone is already so hard to endure, and when you add the complex in there , but not many specialists, people can spiral (without the correct help. I am working on a resource blog post and forum entry with the opportunity for anyone , anywhere who is reading this to add their own resources in for anyone in need , and also for those who are on the healing paths themselves.

This is my main goal here , to eventually create a safe and solid community of trauma survivors and cptsd recovery warriors who can connect and share their tips and tricks for coping with cptsd episodes and so much more.

Recovery and healing from C-PTSD and PTSD is not a linear thing. Sometimes you appear to be handling things pretty well and other times you go into a pit of hell. You feel you’ve gone backward! Don't ever give up though. You are worth it.
