trauma responses .. #cptsdawareness

Our experiences with trauma can have a lasting impact on our mental and emotional well-being, often manifesting in unhealthy behaviors. Trauma can make us feel unsafe and vulnerable, resulting in fear, anxiety, and anger. When these feelings remain unresolved, it can lead to a pattern of negative reinforcement.

When faced with stressful or difficult situations, we may respond with maladaptive behaviors as a form of self-protection. This could include avoidance, substance use, aggression, or other non-compliant behaviors. However, instead of providing the security we may seek, these maladaptive behaviors can trap us in a cycle of negative reinforcement. We repeat these behaviors because they bring a temporary sense of comfort or safety. Still, over time, they are more susceptible to harm and less likely to seek help.

Ultimately, understanding the impact of unresolved trauma and creating healthy connections are two critical steps toward healing and breaking the negative reinforcement trap of non-compliant behavior.
